Goal: By the end of this module, learners will be able to: Identify key principles of effective public speaking. Plan and structure a speech or presentation. Apply verbal and non-verbal communication strategies. Manage presentation anxiety and build confidence. Evaluate their own and others’ presentations to identify areas for improvement.
Audience: Adult learners, business students, or anyone looking to strengthen foundational public speaking skills
Rationale: This self-paced module is designed for adult learners who want to strengthen their foundational public speaking skills. Many of my business students previously expressed feeling unpreparedness for presentations, so this module provides an accessible, easy-to-use introduction. While it does not cover every aspect of public speaking, it offers enough guidance to improve basic presentation skills and encourages independent learning for those who wish to explore concepts more deeply.
Considerations: During development, I prioritized accessibility. Initially, I considered using a drop-down menu for video-based knowledge checks, but this was not optimal for screen readers. I switched to a full-choice menu and added transcripts to all video content. While the final slide is slightly denser than usual, these adjustments ensure the module is fully accessible to all learners.
