Goal: Design a comprehensive, self-paced course module that teaches or reviews the fundamentals of effective public speaking. The module should provide learners with practical strategies, reinforce key concepts, and support skill development in speech preparation, delivery, and audience engagement.
Rationale: Originally part of the larger Public Speaking module, this content was restructured as a micro-lesson to reduce cognitive load and provide a concise, digestible learning experience. While audience analysis can involve surveys, testing, and in-depth research, most learners benefit more from practical strategies. This lesson emphasizes essential techniques that promote reflection, self-directed learning, and immediate application. The micro-learning format reinforces key concepts in a low-stakes, accessible way, supporting skill development without overwhelming learners.
Considerations: Because of the content format and type of information, this micro-lesson did not naturally lend itself to visuals, raising concerns about learner engagement. To address this, I developed supportive visuals to reinforce key text and incorporated end-of-lesson knowledge checks to strengthen retention and promote active engagement.
